Pride Day and Harvest Festival: Pound Ridge Business District Expected to Draw Thousands

The Pound Ridge Partnership, a non-profit, independent, non-partisan organization formed in 2010 to bring together residents, business owners, landlords, and community leaders to promote and enhance the Scotts Corners market will host two events again this year right in the center of town on Westchester Avenue.  These two events last year drew an estimated 3,000 people to Pound Ridge to partake in the festivities.

Pound Ridge Pride 2012

Pound Ridge Pride is an event designed to promote civic pride and beautification efforts in the Scotts Corners Pound Ridge Business District.    This event is co-sponsored by the Pound Ridge Library.  Pound Ridge Pride Day focuses on three themes—beautification, education, and community.  “The event kicks off at noon in front of the Bank of America Building where all are welcome to join in the efforts to clean up and beautify the town.  The community will have the opportunity to paint, plant, and clean up the area together,” according to Melinda Velez, a co-chairwoman of the event.

“The Pound Ridge Pride Committee has been working together with Louis Fusco, a local landscape architect, David Anderson, owner of Anderson Landscaping, Justin Brent, owner of Pound Ridge Home Maintenance, and local property owners Sally Siano and Stephanie DeGraff to transform an unsightly alley between Plum Plums and PromoQueens/Avalon Insurance into a beautiful courtyard”, explains Susan Grissom, Co-Chair of the Partnership’s Beautification Committee.  “The beautification of this courtyard is the highlight of this year’s Pound Ridge Pride Day and the community will have the opportunity to work on the project and attend a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony on May 20th, “ says Terri Pike who serves as co-chairwoman to both the Beautification Committee and the Pride Day Committee. “The courtyard project is the result of bringing together residents, business owners, property owners, and community leaders, which is at the heart of the mission of the Partnership”.

“The education component is focused on educating and informing town residents about the myriad of organizations that make Pound Ridge what it is,” reports Ali Boak, Board Member of Pound Ridge Partnership.  “Community organizations are all invited to set up booths and share what they are doing with the entire Pound Ridge community.”

The community component of the day consists of a town wide block party from 2-5pm right on Westchester Avenue featuring country BBQ (hosted by Scotts Corners Market and the Pound Ridge Police Benevolent Association, live music featuring local band The Subourbons and local acoustic guitar extraordinaire John Praino, an old fashioned ice cream truck, pie eating contest, hula hoop contest and much more.  “We are organizing all kinds of fun activities for children,” explains Liz Ades, co-chairwoman of Pound Ridge Partnership for Kids.  “We will have a jumpy castle, a bunjee run, arts and crafts, and games”.

Harvest Festival 2012

Harvest Festival, scheduled this year for October 13th from X to X, is the Partnership’s premier fundraising event and brings to Pound Ridge world class music, beer, and family friendly activities.  Last year the event featuring Edwin McCain, brought thousands of people to town and raised a nice sum of money for the Pound Ridge Partnership’s activities in town.

According to Michael Daglio, Harvest Festival co-chairman, “The talent for Harvest Festival will be announced soon.  Our committee member, Steven Bensusan, a Pound Ridge resident and President of the Blue Note Entertainment Group and owner of the Blue Note Jazz Club in Greenwich Village, is working hard on booking the talent for this year’s festival.  We are confident that this year will be even better than last year’s festival.”

“Harvest Festival will feature a beer garden and Oktoberfest themed foods provided in collaboration with our local eateries,” explains Kevin Long, co-chair of Harvest Festival.  “Last year we had winer schnitzel provided by Northstar, pretzels by Albanos, and roasted corn on the cob provided by Scotts Corners Market”.

Local vendors and community groups will once again be invited to show off their wares and educate the community about their organizations and there will be all kinds of fun activities for kids of all ages.
