Louis Fusco Slated to Receive Award from Pound Ridge Partnership for Courtyard Project

The vision of transforming two unappreciated adjoining green spaces in the heart of the Scotts Corners/Pound Ridge Business District to a courtyard that reflects the natural beauty of Pound Ridge is well underway thanks to the efforts of Pound Ridge Landscape Architect Louis C. Fusco.

“Fusco is slated to receive the Second Annual David and Lois Anderson Beautification Award for his role in redesigning the courtyard and ferreting it through the town’s approval process. “ according to Terri Pike, Co-chairwoman of the Partnership’s Beautification Committee.

The David and Lois Anderson Beautification Award was created by the Pound Ridge Partnership as a way to recognize an individual, group or business that has shown extraordinary commitment to improving the Pound Ridge Business District” explains Ali Boak, Co-Founder and Board Member of the Pound Ridge Partnership.  “The award was named in honor of David and Lois Anderson, longtime Pound Ridge residents, who for decades have given most generously of their time and resources in the business district including providing the lions share of the labor and materials for the courtyard project”.

“The Partnership will also present “Honorable Mention Awards” this year to the several others who have made the dream of this courtyard into a reality” says Susan Grissom, an artist, gallery director of the Lionheart Gallery, and co-chairwoman of the Partnership’s Beautification Committee.  “The idea for the courtyard was conceived by Dennis Mele, chair of the Partnership’s Architectural Committee, as part of an overall revitalization plan for the business district.  Making the courtyard a reality has been the result of strong collaboration between the members of the Pound Ridge Partnership, the Pound Ridge Business Association, property owners, Sally Siano and Stephanie DeGraff, local business owners Louis Fusco, David and Lois Anderson, and Justin Brent and a cadre of volunteers.

“I remember the day we knocked on Louis’ door unannounced to ask for his help.  He came on board right away.  He cared.  It is our hope and expectation that this courtyard is the first step of a major collaborative effort between the Partnership, more residents like Louis and all the other facets of our community.  Together we can transform the business district to match the beauty of the rest of our beloved town,” says James Best, an architect and Partnership Board Member.

The entire town is invited to participate in Pound Ridge Pride Day 2012 on May 20th.  Meet in front of the Bank of America building at noon to join in the beautification efforts or come enjoy a country BBQ,, live music, and lots of games and fun for the family from2-5pm on Westchester Avenue.  The award and ribbon cutting ceremony for the courtyard is scheduled for 3pm.
