On Saturday July 14th Verizon phone service went down in the Scotts Corner/Pound Ridge Business District and was not restored for several days. For Salon Perri, a high end local salon that has been in town for more than 10 years, Saturday’s are the busiest day of the week. “If I can’t get calls on Saturday and people think I’m closed, I could lose a lot of business,” explains Charles Guilianti, owner of Salon Perri.
Luckily it was business as usual thanks to a Fempto cell Salon Perri installed a through the subsidy program offered by the Pound Ridge Partnership. “I called Verizon and had them forward all the salon calls to my cell phone which I am able to get reception on due to the Fempto cell I installed last year.” explained Mr. Guilianti.
“A Fempto cell is a mini cell tower that runs off your computer. It’s a great solution where there is no cell”. Says Michael Juchem, Chair of the Pound Rigde Partnership’s Cell Phone and WiFi Committee. “Fempto cells are affordable and easy to install. If everyone had one, we wouldn’t need cell towers.”
“The Femptocell saved the day!” exclaims Charles Guilianti. “I would urge businesses in town to contact the Partnership to learn more about getting a Fempto cell.”
According to Ali Boak, co-founder and Board member of the Pound Ridge Partnership “Lack of cell service in Scotts Corners/Pound Ridge Business District has been something that both residents and business owners have brought to our attention since the Partnership began 2 years ago. The Fempto cell is not perfect but its an excellent solution while we wait for a cell tower that will provide adequate coverage in the area.”
