Nurturing and Maintaining Pound Ridge

The Growing Pound Ridge Committee prioritizes landscape improvements and identifies the environmental needs of Pound Ridge to help nurture and maintain our town. In keeping with the history and natural beauty of Pound Ridge, Growing Pound Ridge aspires to strengthen our relationship with our surroundings and highlight what we value about Pound Ridge. While we honor the town’s past and the stewardship of Indigenous peoples and former residents, we work to bolster our current ecology to bring health and prosperity to those who reside here today by protecting the water, air, soil, native plants and wildlife.

In 2021, we set up committees to fundraise, recruit and coordinate volunteers, and address a few projects. The small projects included native plantings along Shelly’s Walk, a Story Walk, and a seed library. The large projects included a landscape installation and a municipal landscape plan. We approached Louis Fusco, resident of Pound Ridge and landscape architect, for both. In the fall of that year, plants were installed completing the first large project.

PAST BEAUTIFICATION PROJECTS

Develop a sustainable municipal landscape plan

The development of a sustainable municipal planting plan, which will enable us as well as future generations to live in an ecologically intact environment, is underway. With this plan, we are growing Pound Ridge to the next level, starting with Scotts Corners and the Hamlet and eventually everything in between. We work to fill in spaces with plants, trees, and flowers. Thanks to our volunteers and the generosity of our residents and friends, phase one of our municipal landscape plan was completed in September 2021.

Participate in America in Bloom

In June 2022, we hosted two advisors from America in Bloom, a nonprofit organization that promotes nationwide beautification. Growing Pound Ridge prepared a 25-page Community Profile for our town and a two-day itinerary to introduce the advisors to the people and places that define us. We continue to actively engage representatives from the municipality, library, businesses, and community groups to make sure our America in Bloom profile reflects our residents’ vision for the town. Here is America in Bloom’s overall evaluation of Pound Ridge.
