Green Streets Program Offers Pound Ridgers A Chance to Adopt-A-Streetlight

“This all-volunteer Green Streets Committee, a joint project of the Pound Ridge Business Association and Pound Ridge Partnership has been working closely with Louis Fusco, a local landscape architect who has donated his time, to create a plan for replacing the existing streetlights in Pound Ridge Scotts Corners business district with lights that are both “green” and beautiful”, according to James Best, a local architect representing the Pound Ridge Partnership on the Green Streets Committee.

“Modeled after the program in New Canaan, a beautiful, engraved brass plaques acknowledging the donor or donors will be affixed to the pole of the streetlights,” according to Ruth Mendes, Green Streets Committee member and board member of the Pound Ridge Business District.

“The streetlights will be adopted on a first come, first-serve basis as there are only twenty-four plaques available in this phase,” explains Fred Albano, a local business owner representing the Pound Ridge Business Association and Green Streets Committee.  “Each plaque can accommodate five lines of text with sixteen characters per line.  One can adopt their own street light or band together in groups, with each group receiving a line of the text.”

If you would like to be part of a group, but can’t put one together, the Green Streets Committee will arrange for you or your organization to have one line on a plaque with others.  The cost per line is $1,000.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to honor a loved one or an organization while supporting community efforts to beautify our town and make it more environmentally friendly,” says Susan Grissom, a member of the Green Streets Committee who also co-chairs the Pound Ridge Partnership’s Beautification Committee.

Terri Pike, Green Streets Committee Member and Co-Chair of the Pound Ridge Partnership’s Beautification Committee reminds the community “All donations are tax deductible.  Please support our efforts to install environmentally friendly lights that will be beautiful, boasting hanging flower baskets and flags on the holidays”.

A FLYER containing information and the application is being sent to all residents. Please contact James Best (jbest@poundridgepartnership.org) with questions or CLICK for additional information.
