At Pound Ridge’s fourth annual Battle of the Bands, held Saturday, June 17, two winners emerged from the musical competition on the Green in Scotts Corners, earning the right to open for this year’s Harvest Festival headliner.
There were two categories, adult and young adult, with two bands in each category.
In the adult level, Freedom Rockets faced off against ONL. Guard Hill and ShopVak were the bands competing in the young adult category.
The event was hosted by the Pound Ridge Partnership and emceed by Brian Fields.
Tanja Vogel, president of the Pound Ridge Partnership, believes the event “is an opportunity to bring local musicians together, and is a great space for adults, kids and young adults to share common interests.”
After the first round of songs, the judges’ votes were tied, so they asked both bands to perform one more song. In the end, the judges awarded the adult band opening spot for the Harvest Festival to the Freedom Rockets. The band consists of Jimy Bishop, Adam Machado, Mike Mazzeo, Luke Shenk and Colin Herrington.
The young adult performances also resulted in a tie after two songs, and once again both bands performed once more. Guard Hill won the final spot for the opening act of the harvest festival.
